2011 Wisdom Keeper Judith Mower

Dr. Judith Mower was president of J. C. Mower Consultants until her retirement in 2010 and had been an independent organizational development consultant since 1978. She has 25 years’ experience as an organizational development consultant, helping more than 90 organizations with leadership development, quality improvement and strategic planning.

Among her clients were businesses, nonprofits, school systems, professional associations, military groups, colleges, and civic organizations. She has been an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University both in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and the Whitman School of Management.

She received her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from SU in 1984, which she preceded with two master’s degrees and an undergraduate degree, also from Syracuse. She has also studied extensively with such organizations as National Training Laboratories and the International Association for Public Participation. 

Dr. Mower currently serves as a Trustee of Syracuse University and Chair of the Board of Trustees’ Student Affairs Committee. She also chairs the advisory board for Syracuse University Libraries, and is an advisory board member for WISE, a program for women entrepreneurs sponsored by SU’s Whitman School of Management. She has been a board member for Onondaga Environmental Institute, FOCUS Greater Syracuse, Syracuse 20/20, and the Near West Side Initiative. She is also board chair emeritus for the Albany-based Parks and Trails New York, the state’s leading advocate for parks and trails.

She has helped to launch several community programs and initiatives, including Leadership Greater Syracuse, FOCUS Greater Syracuse, the Professional Consultants Association of Central New York, the Women’s Fund, the Vera House Foundation, Say Yes to Education, and the Dialogue Circles on Racism and Racial Healing. 

Dr. Mower has been honored with numerous awards. To list some of them, she was named Syracuse Post Standard Woman of Achievement in 1989, Fund Raiser of the Year in 1993, and a member of Leadership America in 1995. She received leadership awards from Girls Inc. in 2000, the Inter-Religious Council in 2000, Central New York Girl Scouts in 2001, Vera House Foundation in 2002, Onondaga Citizens League in 2009, the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation in 2010, the Salvation Army in 2011, FOCUS Greater Syracuse in 2012, and the Children’s Consortium in 2013.
