A
Vision for VISITORS
The heart of NY beats
A community where every guest feels welcomed and delighted
that they came, for a day or a degree, for shopping
or business, for fellowship or fun.
VISITORS
Outcome Goals:
We will be a four seasons destination for conventions,
conferences, sporting events, and family tourists.
We will be a visitor-friendly community.
We will speak with pride about where we live,
to each other and to strangers.
VISITORS
Action Goals:
TOURISM AND CONVENTIONS
41.
Combine
all tourism efforts:
for maximum impact
for optimal use of resources
42.
Launch
a national campaign to attract tourists:
using a coordinated approach involving all
agencies and organizations that promote tourism
43.
Teach
hospitality tips to people who deal with newcomers:
such as people in the hospitality industry,
taxi drivers, store employees, etc.
to enlist their help in making this a visitor-friendly,
positive community
regularly providing them with concise information
about events and attractions.
44.
Encourage
Carousel shoppers to visit other attractions:
via ONTrack or their own cars
by having a prominent display about the attractions
and showing them how to get to them
and have similar displays in area hotels, especially
the Hotel Syracuse and at Carrier Circle
45.
Centrally
locate & promote our downtown visitors center:
- with better signage along the streets and also
in front of the building
46.
Enclose
walkways around the Convention Center:
making them attractive and safe
linking ONCENTER with the War Memorial, the Hotel
Syracuse, etc.
47.
Build
a hotel near ONCENTER:
to be able to attract more mid-sized and
larger conventions
connected to the ONCENTER and other sites by
enclosed walkways
48.
Add
more events year round:
- especially in fall, winter, and spring
- attracting tourists as well as local residents

as a tourist attraction, but also for our own
residents
51.
Build
a Native American Cultural Center:
to honor the culture that was here before
any other
as a tourist attraction
52.
Establish
an African American & "Underground Railroad"
Museum:

starting with saving the faces
