Join a Discussion on Resources for Citizens
that Help Reduce the Threats of Substance Abuse
and their Impact on the Vitality of Our Community

Donna Knapp, Environmental Specialist from Prevention Network- will provide an overview of the challenges that our community faces related to substance abuse and facilitate the panel discussion on the need for more citizen supported solutions.

Prevention Network was first established over 60 years ago as the Onondaga Council on Alcoholism Addictions, Inc.

Ms. Knapp will introduce the following experts, who work diligently against the dangers of substance abuse and the threats they impose on the quality of life in Central New York:

Michelle Mignano, Deputy Health Commissioner of the Onondaga County Health Department – will present data and findings from reports related to substance abuse and its impact on the health of Onondaga County. She will also provide details on Onondaga County’s strategies to address substance abuse issues.

Lieutenant Richard F. Shoff, Jr., Commanding Officer of the Community Policing Division for the Syracuse Police Department - will highlight police efforts and outreach programs aimed to effectively address substance abuse activities.

Lt. Shoff is also the Commanding Officer of the School Resources Officers, Licensing Section, and Ordinance enforcement

Charles Jackson, Coordinator for the Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (YSAP) – will showcase strategies on educating and empowering citizens with the tools to eliminate the threats of substance abuse through youth leadership training, adult participation, and collaborative partnerships. YSAP recently received support through a Congressional grant for $125,000.00 secured by Representative John Katko to continue its work in the City of Syracuse on preventing youth substance use.
