F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse has partnered with the City of Syracuse’s Office of Neighborhood & Business Development to explore the elements found in city neighborhoods that have value toward community interests in “Shaping an Age-Friendly CNY”.
F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse, representatives from the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County, and engaged citizens toured four of Syracuse’s neighborhoods with an “Age-friendly Village Center Checklist” that was developed by a citizens strategic planning group. Findings form the tour were shared at a F.O.C.U.S. Forum on December 18, 2015.
Age-Friendly Village Centers are urban or suburban areas that have a name, defined boundaries, and are recognized by the local government as an economic asset that provides an age-friendly environment for all ages and in particular the older population. They are designated neighborhoods that include culture, recreation, commercial, and environmentally secure and safe places to live and raise a family and age in place.
